Amidst speculations and fears concerning the laudable computer ownership scheme (COS) programme powered by the Federal ministry of Communications Technology and NITDA in conjunction with Local OEMs, have taken a stride over the FIRST huddle… yes delivery of the first set of applications are presently on-going nation wide.
When early last year the Minister for Communications technology unvailed this project with intent to bring Notebooks within reach of every Nigerian university student, little did one expects that this would soon become a reality. For some it was thought as just another vision 20-something but Alas, the minister was no dreamer she swung to action, amongst variuos meetings followed by visitation to local OEMs and numerous stakeholders round table talks, she showed passion and comitment for this project to work.
Beta computers Limited manufacturers of Speedstar brand of pc bought into this project, wholly supportive of the ministers passion along with other local OEMs and international giants as Intel and Microsoft. Speedstar brand aside the having required specification come with additional freebees as additional memory (4GB instead of 2GB), skype, anti-theft tracker etc.
On march 20 2013, Mr Usman Balarabe, the proud father of Balarabe Ibrahim a student of Usman Dan Fodiio University Sokoto, collected one of the first sets of Notebook (laptop) under the COS programme. His joy knew no bound and he would not hide his excitment that he is finally giving his son a notebook to study with.
With similar deliveries rolling on, all should now come to believe that this scheme is a reality and should expect that to follow will be deliveries of the several other applications once approval is given.
